Property rezoning to top county meeting
By KEN BELL
Item City Editor
Sumter County Council will consider final approval of an amendment to rezone eight properties along Wedgefield, Lynam and Loring Mill roads to allow for commercial development at its meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting will be held in council chambers in the County Administration Building at 13 E. Canal St.
The proposed development would be called Loring Mill Village Center and would also include several properties located within the city. Sumter City Council delayed first reading on the proposal last week until results of a recently completed traffic study could be analyzed. If approved, the properties would be rezoned from Residential Conservation (RC) to Limited Business Development (LBD).
Also included within the reading is a proposal to rezone the property comprising about 15 acres from Residential-15 (R-15) and Residential PD (Planned Development) to a Commercial PD (Planned Development).
Council is also expected to consider first reading of an amendment to an ordinance that will require sidewalks and curbing to be in compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
Also up for first reading is an amendment to an ordinance on zoning and development standards pertaining to the size, height, location, number and setbacks for accessory structures.
Council will also consider first reading of an ordinance to eliminate the Sumter City/County Mechanical Board of Adjustments and Appeals and to incorporate its function and responsibilities into the Sumter City/County Building Board of Adjustments and Appeals.
At 4 p.m. Tuesday, there will be a meeting of the Fiscal, Tax and Property Committee in council’s conference room located adjacent to chambers.
Sumter County Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month in council chambers in the County Administration Building at 13 E. Canal St. The public is encouraged to attend.
