Lynchburg to consider appointments to boards Tuesday
LYNCHBURG – The Lynchburg Town Council is expected to consider appointments to its planning and zoning board when it meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Teen Center on Magnolia Street.
Among the candidates for appointment is Nathaniel Bess, former mayor of Lynchburg. Bess recently completed a training program for zoning and planning officials, said Mayor Thompson Isaac.
Bess, a former Lynchburg mayor, pleaded guilty in June 2000 to taking more than $32,000 of public money from the Lynchburg-Elliott Day Care Center where he worked as bookkeeper.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended to five years of probation. He was also ordered to pay the embezzled money back.
He was suspended from his position as mayor in September 1998.
Other agenda items will include reports from the mayor, council members and the police department.
The Lynchburg Town Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Teen Center on Magnolia Street.
