BISHOPVILLE – Lynchburg voters will go to the polls in a nonpartisan general election on June 2 to fill two seats on town council.
Filing will open at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Town Hall at 81 Magnolia St. and will remain open during regular business hours until 5 p.m. on April 8.
The filing fee is $50.
The two council seats open for election are those currently filled by Bobby Morrell Sr. and Nancy Galloway, whose terms expire June 30.
Galloway said she will not be a candidate.
“I have decided that I am not going to file,” Galloway said. “I’ve had a lot of pressure to file for the seat, but I’ve put in five years. I have tried to do the best I could for this town. And I wish the town all the good luck in the world. And I hope there will be some interested and dedicated people to file. It’s a lot of hard work being on council.”
Morrell, who has served on council for eight years, said he expects to make a decision within the next couple of weeks.
“I’ve not made a decision yet,” he said. “But I am considering running again.”
Residents wishing to vote must register by May 1 at the Lee County Board of Voter Registration located on the Courthouse Square in Bishopville, according to Phyllis Windham, chairwoman of the Lynchburg Election Commission.
Candidates for town council must be residents and registered electors of the Town of Lynchburg for at least 30 days, Windham said.
Any questions concerning the election should be directed to town officials at (803) 437-2933.
