LYNCHBURG -- A man told the Sumter County Sheriff's Office that he was robbed at gunpoint after he towed a car as a favor for a friend.
The 29-year-old Lynchburg man told deputies he used his own sport utility vehicle to tow a car to a home on Nero Circle about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. When he dropped off the car, the man at the home paid him.
But moments later, the man grabbed a sawed-off shotgun and said, "I want my money back!" and fired the shotgun near the victim's head. The victim gave the gunman back some of his money, then left, according to the sheriff's office.
The victim did not report the incident until about noon Sunday, more than 12 hours later, a sheriff's office report says.
