A 25-year-old man was shot early Wednesday morning after he reportedly broke into a 22-year-old woman's Cherryvale home.
A report shows Kenyatta McClary, of 4350 S. Lake Cherryvale Drive, woke up about 3:45 a.m. to see a black man dressed in all black clothing standing in her bedroom doorway. She told deputies she heard gunshots but as events quickly unfolded, she wasn't sure if her boyfriend, Duwayne Belin, 22, had her gun, an Airweight .38-caliber revolver.
"Five bullet holes were found in the bedroom door and wall, fired from inside outward," the report states.
Sumter County Sheriff's Office Capt. Jamie Turner said investigators believe Belin fired through the bedroom door at Kenyard Bolden, 25, of 1105 N. St. Paul Church Road.
"They heard the door getting busted in," he said.
Authorities said Bolden took a bullet through his lower left lung and lost a kidney. The report shows a call was placed from 4515 Wilma Court about a black male lying on the front porch needing law enforcement. He was found wearing black overalls with a gunshot wound to his left side and was transported to Tuomey Regional Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services and underwent surgery.
Rubber gloves, a black ski mask and a shotgun with ejected shells were found on a path behind Wilma Court, the report shows. Belin told investigators he used the .38-caliber and flushed the shells down the toilet. Bolden claimed to have been shot in a car and dumped on Wilma Court.
An unloaded .22-caliber revolver was recovered from McClary's kitchen pantry.
Bolden is facing charges of burglary and Turner said the investigation is ongoing.
