Motorcyclist killed in Sunday evening crash
PAXVILLE -- A 26-year-old Summerton man was killed after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding Sunday evening, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The Clarendon County Coroner's Office identified the man as Leon Richburg Jr. The family asked the coroner's office not to release Richburg's address.
Richburg was riding a 2001 Honda CBR northbound on Ingram Road near U.S. 15, about nine miles north of Summerton and just south of Paxville when he ran off the right side of the road and overturned, Highway Patrol Sgt. Kelley Hughes said.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, which happened at 6:42 p.m., but it wasn't immediately clear how fast Richburg was going. He was not wearing a helment. The section of road on which Richburg crashed is a straightaway, Hughes said.
Richburg was taken by ambulance to Clarendon Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:14 p.m., the Highway Patrol said.
The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the wreck, Hughes said.
