WEDGEFIELD — The late Monday afternoon arrest of a 22-year-old man on drug and federal firearm charges led to the arrest of five other people and the seizure of drugs with a street value of nearly $4,000, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
Alvis Williams, of 5915 Wessex Drive, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and cocaine, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and distribution of cocaine, according to a press release.
Members of the Sumter County Drug Unit arrested him at his home, then obtained a search warrant to search his home, which uncovered 10.2 grams of cocaine, 11.6 grams of crack cocaine and 61 grams of marijuana, along with $570 in cash.
"This was some good work by our investigators," said Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis on Tuesday, noting that after Williams was arrested, the strong odor of marijuana was detected, which led to the warrant. He also said investigators took into account a number of complaints received regarding Williams' home.
Other Wedgefield residents arrested include:
Thomas Geddie, 42, of 5975 Orangehill Church Road; and Larry Dinkins, 34, of 2435 S.C. 261, were both charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, trafficking crack cocaine and trafficking cocaine.
Latonya Lovette, 38, of 2175 Spotts Road; Gerald Butler, 32, of 40 Vidalia Court, and Milton Harrell, 35, of 3005 Hayward-Choice Road, were all charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, second offense, trafficking crack cocaine, second offense, and trafficking cocaine, second offense.
