Escaped inmate is found, returned
An inmate who walked away from his work assignment at Wateree River Correctional Institution in Rembert on May 6 was captured in Cherokee County Wednesday night.
Tracy Cobb was taken into custody by the State Law Enforcement Division's Fugitive Team, investigators from the S.C. Department of Corrections and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office about 10:15 p.m., according to a SLED press release.
Cobb apparently hitched a ride from Richland County to Cherokee County and was found near Blackburg in a vehicle with several family members, who are cooperating with investigators.
Cobb was arrested without incident and remanded to the custody of the state DOC.
