A man was arrested after police saw him holding a pellet pistol shaped like a 10 mm handgun in the Poplar Square Apartments complex, police said.
Jeremy Leroy Robinson, 20, of 4670 Black River Road, Dalzell, was charged with interfering with police and carrying an unlawful weapon after the incident, which happened at 12:40 a.m. Sunday in the complex at 925 Miller Road, according to an arrest report.
Police responded in reference to a large group of people standing in the center of the complex violating curfew.
When they arrived, several people were seen walking on a grassy area, and they ran when a police officer shined a light on them.
The officer drove to another part of teh complex and saw two people trying to enter the main door to an apartment building. When the officer called, one of them kept placing his left hand into his back left pants pocket.
The officer told the man, later identified as Robinson, four times to show his hands. On the fourth command, Robinson removed his hand and was holding a Delta Elite Colt Automatic Pellet pistol, an arrest report says.
Robinson dropped the pellet gun on command and was arrest. A search of Robinson revealed a blue bandana, which police said typically represents the Crips gang, in his back pocket.
He was taken to Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center, and the pellet gun and bandana were seized by police as evidence.
