New toll bridge to be explained to public

The state highway department will have a series of public meetings to explain the new Louisiana 1 Highway toll bridge over Bayou Lafourche near Port Fourchon and Grand Isle.

The evening meetings will be held across southern Louisiana between June 8 and June 18.

The new fixed-level, tolled bridge at Leeville is the first phase of the Louisiana 1 Expressway, which will eventually consist of 19 miles of new elevated roadway from Golden Meadow to the Gulf of Mexico.

The new bridge is scheduled to open this summer to replace the Leeville-lift bridge, which will be demolished.
