No charges for father whose infant son died in car
The Associated Press
Contra Costa County prosecutors say they will not charge an El Cerrito man whose 4-month old son died after being left in his father's car all day.
Deputy District Attorney Harold Jewett said Monday that 42-year-old Alan Carey made a "terrible mistake" that he will carry with him for the rest of his life.
Carey's son, Everett, died June 8 after he was left in the car at a BART station parking lot in El Cerrito.
The boy was pronounced dead at a San Pablo hospital after his mother found him in the vehicle.
Jewett says it appears Carey forgot the child because he did not put him in the car that morning, and the boy was in a rear-facing car seat, which is required for infants.
Jewett says it appears the child died from hyperthermia, or heatstroke.
