Two crimes shook Sumter County residents late last night, and police are still searching for the perpetrators, according to Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis.
A 37-year-old man was shot to death Wednesday night at his DuBose Siding Road home and a 34-year-old man was shot in the face and upper body at his Barrette Circle home about the same time in what are believed to be unrelated incidents
Three intruders reportedly entered a home located at the 5200 block of DuBose Siding Road between 10 and 10:30 p.m., when they shot a 37-year-old man and forced the five other people at the home onto the floor, before robbing the home and fleeing.
Christopher Davis, of 5230 DuBose Siding Road, was pronounced dead at 10:50 p.m. from multiple gunshot wounds by Deputy Coroner Bob Lybrand, said Sumter County Coroner Harvin Bullock.
A report shows Davis had gunshot wounds to both arms. Bullock said an autopsy was being performed on Davis today at Newberry Pathology Associates.
Dennis said that the police have several leads in the incident, but no one has been taken into custody yet.
In an unrelated incident in the 3200 block of Barrette Circle, a 34-year-old man who was concerned about a prowler went outside and was peppered with pellets from a shotgun blast, Dennis said. He is in stable condition at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
"Right now we don't have any leads on that case, either," Dennis said. "However, the two incidents appear to be unrelated."
Dennis said that the first incident may be drug related, but police are still investigating.
"It was not random," he said. "It was targeted."
Police believe that the second incident was random, however.
Updates on the case will follow.
