'Deadbeat dad' arrested

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office added an alleged "deadbeat dad" to its Most Wanted list Monday morning and had him in custody by the afternoon.

Benjamin R. Gladden, 45, with a last-known address of 2316 Harper St., was arrested on an outstanding bench warrant charging him with failure to pay $29,299 in child support, the sheriff's said.

The sheriff's office issued the Most Wanted alert about 10:30 a.m. Monday. Just five hours later, they had Gladden in custody and took him to Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
