Killing drug-related?
Authorities: Father was a drug dealer

The recent killing of a 1-year-old and the injuries to his 26-year-old father who remains hospitalized can be traced to one issue, police say: The father might have been dealing drugs.

Police said Tuesday that Cabrall Archie Sr., shot May 8 at his Carver Street home, was a drug dealer, and the motive for the shooting was the theft of money and drugs.

During the robbery, both Archie and his son, Cabrall Archie Jr., were shot and airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, but the 1-year-old boy died three days later in the hospital. His father is in stable condition.

A bond hearing was held Tuesday afternoon for the 18-year-old man accused of being the gunman, as well as for two other people alleged to have been involved. A total of seven people took part in either planning the robbery, the shooting or its aftermath, police said, and are facing charges.

Asherdon Hari Holloway, 18, of 20 Birnie Circle, was arrested Friday night at a home in a suburb of Atlanta and appeared before Judge George Gibson at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. He will remain in jail on charges of assault and battery with intent to kill, attempted armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Sumter Police Department Detective Irene Culick told Gibson that Holloway shot Archie and his son several times during the robbery. While requesting that the judge deny bond, Culick noted that Holloway has family in New York and Georgia.

"Thank you, Jesus," Tasha Archie, mother of Cabrall Archie Jr., said between sobs after Gibson denied bond. "Oh, God ..."

Holloway is also being charged with murder but will have to appear before a Circuit Court judge for a bond hearing on that charge.
Marcus Haynesworth, 22, has been charged with accessory before the fact of murder; accessory before the fact of attempted armed robbery; accessory before the fact of armed robbery; accessory before the fact of assault and battery with intent to kill and conspiracy. Culick told Gibson that Haynesworth helped plan the crime with Holloway and several others. He was already at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center on an unrelated charge. Gibson set his bond at $400,000.

Kenya Arisha Haynesworth-Kennedy, 30, has been charged with accessory after the fact for murder; accessory after the fact for attempted armed robbery; and accessory after the fact for assault and battery with intent to kill and obstruction of justice

"Her part in this was, the defendant, during the incident, he shot himself in the process and Kenya rendered assistance and aid and took him to the hospital and took him out of town to avoid law enforcement being notified of that," Culick told Gibson during her hearing, noting Haynesworth-Kennedy had knowledge of the crime and how it occurred.

Gibson set her bond at $200,000.

Also being charged after being arrested on Monday and Tuesday are:

Terrance Deangelo Hayneworth, 27, has been charged with accessory before the fact for murder; accessory before the fact for attempted armed robbery; accessory before the fact for assault and battery with intent to kill and conspiracy.

Jessica Patrice Brown, 20, has been charged with accessory after the fact for murder; accessory after the fact for attempted armed robbery; and accessory after the fact for assault and battery with intent to kill.

Cameron Davis, 21, is currently in jail in Florence and will be charged with accessory before the fact for murder; accessory before the fact for assault and battery with intent to kill; accessory before the fact for attempted armed robbery and conspiracy.

Quinton Napolean Weldon, 27, turned himself in to authorities late Tuesday and will be charged with accessory before the fact for murder; accessory before the fact for assault and battery with intent to kill; accessory before the fact for attempted armed robbery and conspiracy.

"They took everything away from us," a tearful Tasha Archie said at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center on Tuesday after the three bond hearings and called Holloway an "animal."

Capt. Alvin Holston credited the arrests to investigators' hard work at trying to develop leads in this case, which led to "a strong break" Friday when Holloway was arrested.

"We take it very serious when people attempt to lead us off course of an investigation," he said, characterizing the May 8 incident as "criminal activity upon criminal activity."

The investigation, he said, revealed the motive "for this unfortunate incident was robbery for money — money and/or drugs," adding that Archie was "known to law enforcement."

Public records show Archie pled guilty to unlawful possession of a stolen pistol and manufacture of ice, crank or crack in late 2002. He also has charges pending from a January 2008 arrest: possession with intent to distribute crack near a school and distribution of crack, third offense. Other pending charges include a conspiracy drug charge — it's unspecified what drug was involved — from September 2008.

Holston said investigation remains ongoing and more arrests are pending.
