Deltona man injured in shotgun accident
The Associated Press
Authorities say a Deltona man who blew off part of his left hand with a short-barrel shotgun could face charges for possessing an illegal firearm.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office reports that 24-year-old Kenneth Haven got out of bed to check a strange noise early Tuesday morning. He told deputies he was carrying his shotgun when he tripped over a dumbbell and fell, causing the gun to discharge.
Haven went to a nearby hospital for treatment, and a staff member called the authorities.
A deputy went to Haven's house and found shotgun pellets and a large amount of blood in the kitchen.
Haven faces the criminal charge because authorities say the shotgun barrel was only 8 1/2 inches long, too short under Florida law.
