The following have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas: Air Force Airman Kevin E. McLeod, Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Michael J. Kozlowski, Air Force Airman Aaron J. Brandt, Air Force Airman Noe A. Ferron, Air Force Airman Roderick D. Grant, Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Shelton Davis, Air Force Airman Ethan S. Myers, Air Force Airman David N. Van Beuge and Air Force Airman 1st Class Clemon Caldwell Jr.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
McLeod, grandson of Isiah and Jessie Tomlin of Sumter, is a 2008 graduate of Sumter High School.
Kozlowski is the son of Kathrine Kreuzer of Sumter.
Brandt, son of Christine Brandt of Sumter, is a 2006 graduate of Crestwood High School.
Ferron, son of Noe and Lisa Ferren of Sumter, is a 2007 graduate of Sumter High School.
Grant is the son of Roderick and Charlene Grant of Dalzell.
Davis, son of Robert Davis and Debbie Bowens-Davis, is a 2008 graduate of Sumter High School.
Myers is the son of Lucille Myers and nephew of Charlie Richardson, both of Sumter.
Van Beuge, son of John and Suzanne Irvin of Sumter, is a 2008 graduate of Laurence Manning Academy, Manning.
Caldwell, grandson of Nolie and Mae P. Caldwell of Summerton, is a 2008 graduate of Scott's Branch High School, Summerton.
The following have graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.: Army Reserve Pvt. Curtis J. Cousins, Army Reserve Pfc. Philip A. Turner and Army Reserve Pfc. John W. Cousins Jr.
The course of instruction included basic combat training and advanced individual training (AIT).
The basic trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history and traditions.
During AIT, the soldier completed the Combat Engineer Course to perform basic combat construction and rigging operations; operate light and heavy engineer wheeled and armor tracked vehicles while participating in combat mobility, countermobility and survivability operations; assist in assembly and maintenance of military standard float and fixed bridges; prepare, install and prime firing systems for demolition and explosives; arm, disarm and install anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, locate mines by visual means or with mine detector; and recognize and neutralize land mines, firing devices and booby traps.
Pvt. Curtis J. Cousins, son of Sarah Dowd of Sumter, is a 2007 graduate of Thomas Sumter Academy, Dalzell.
Turner is the son of Philip Turner of Sumter and grandson of Sheldon Hurst of Wilkes Barre, Pa.
Pfc. John W. Cousins Jr., son of David and Sarah Dowd of Sumter and grandson of Walter and Marylin Shealy of Ballentine, is a 2002 graduate of Stratford High School, Goose Creek.
Army Pvt. Jr D. McCray has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
McCray, son of Shirley McCray of Sumter, is a 2008 graduate of Lakewood High School.
