Clarendon officers help with Gaffney manhunt

The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office is helping out with a massive manhunt for a suspected serial killer in the Gaffney area.

Clarendon Sheriff Randy Garrett said Sunday evening that he and four of his officers arrived in the Cherokee County community shortly after 6 p.m. Gaffney has been terrorized by what authorities believe is a serial killer who is responsible for the deaths of five people since June 27.

Several other sheriff's offices are helping the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office investigate the killings and search for a suspected male serial killer. Garrett said those agencies include the following sheriff's offices: Newberry, Saluda, Spartanburg and Union counties.

Garrett said he plans to be back in Clarendon County on Monday, but the four officers he dispatched to Gaffney will stay as long as they are needed.
