New building in SC city funded by stimulus money

The Associated Press

A South Carolina city is breaking ground on the first building in the city to be financed by federal stimulus money.

Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. and city officials break ground Wednesday on a new community center near Burke High School. The nearly $6 million structure is being built with energy-efficient materials to conserve on energy costs.

City officials say it's also one of the first new buildings in South Carolina to be built with federal recovery money.
