Pitkin man indicted in death of woman

The Associated Press

A 32-year-old Beauregard Parish grand jury has returned a second-degree murder indictment against Billie Joe Weldon, accused in the slaying of a DeRidder woman.

District Attorney David W. Burton told the American Press of Lake Charles Tuesday that state court Judge C. Kerry Anderson set Weldon's bond at $10 million.

Weldon, of Pitkin, had been charged with first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping. He is accused of killing 27-year-old Kimberly Ann Stephens.

Stephens' body was found Aug. 26 in a vacant lot off U.S. Highway 171 in Pleasant Hill.
