Elks Lodge begins annual turkey shoots
The Sumter Elks Lodge offers several chances during the next few weeks to practice your shooting skills and win a turkey for your Thanksgiving table. The Woody Hunt 29th Annual Veteran's Turkey Shoot will be held each Sunday from Oct. 11-Dec. 13 from 1 p.m. until dark, according to Steve Guest, lodge veterans chairman. Proceeds from the target shooting contests will be used to provide assistance to U.S. military veterans in Sumter, Lee and Clarendon counties and at the W.B. Dorn VA Hospital in Columbia. Guest said the Elks were able to donate $1,200 last year to help furnish rooms in the hospice ward for "departing warriors" at the VA hospital. For more information, call Guest at (803) 469-3748.
