A 17-year-old male is being sought in connection with an Oct. 8 shooting at a motel during an alleged drug deal.
Marcus Trevon Branch, of 1121 Alice Drive, Apt. 63, is wanted on a charge of assault and battery with intent to kill after police said he is thought to be responsible for shooting a 49-year-old man in the neck at the Econo Lodge, 226 N. Washington St.
A report says police responded to the motel about 2:58 a.m. that day and found the 49-year-old man bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to the neck and standing outside his room. The man reportedly told police he bought $100 worth of "bad crack" from two men a week prior and on Oct. 8, one of the men called him and promised they would make it up to him with "better quality crack cocaine."
A Thursday press release says Branch's accomplice in the alleged incident has not been identified, but police are still investigating.
A records check shows Branch was arrested in May on drugs and weapons charges, which are still pending. Police said he is considered to be armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Branch or information about the shooting is urged to contact the Sumter Police Department at (803) 436-2700 or Crime Stoppers at (803) 436-2718. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
