SANTEE — A Summerton man is in stable condition after being shot Thursday morning.
Officials with the Orangeburg County Sheriffs Department said Friday that the 33-year-old man was treated for a gunshot wound to the side at Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties after being shot near a convenience store on S.C. 6.
According to reports, a 27-year-old man said he and the victim had been at a home on Summer Lane and decided to go to Elloree.
While driving down Antioch Road, they saw a vehicle stopped in the road.
The man told police an unidentified man walked from in front of the light brown Jeep, stopped in the road and opened fire, shooting into the rear of his vehicle.
The Summerton man suffered injuries to the left middle area of his back, reports said.
The man drove the victim to the convenience store and called 911.
Kisa Peterson, a media specialist with the Orangeburg County Sheriffs Office, said the incident was being investigated.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the sheriffs office at (803) 534-3550 or Crime Stoppers of the Midlands at (888) CRIME-SC (274-6372).
