Dalzell man charged with growing marijuana
A Dalzell man was arrested after he was stopped at a driver’s license checkpoint at Westbury Mill and Cotton Acres roads Saturday night, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Raymon Jefferson, 45, of 7080 Peach Orchard Road, was charged with possession and manufacture of marijuana after he was stopped by officers at 9:24 p.m. Saturday.
An officer asked Jefferson if he’d been drinking, and he said he drank two beers, according to an arrest report. He allowed officers to search his car. The search yielded a brown paper bag with 16 grams of suspected marijuana, the report says.
Jefferson was arrested and told officers he grew marijuana in the back yard at his home, according to the report.
At 11:30 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at Jefferson’s home, and they found two marijuana plants and 10 grams of suspected marijuana, the report says. The estimated valued of drugs found at the home was $4,000, according to the report. Jefferson was taken to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center, where he was being held Monday in lieu of $5,000 surety bond.
