Woman charged after bus ramming incident
A 42-year-old woman was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill Friday afternoon after police said she tried to ram the bus she was driving into her husband but hit her husband's girlfriend's car instead.
Alice Williams, of 4435 Reona Ave., was taken into custody about 12:21 p.m., a report said, after she entered the parking lot of Santee-Wateree Regional Transit Authority in a SWRTA bus and aimed it directly at her 43-year-old husband — a SWRTA mechanic — who was standing at the driver's door of his 31-year-old girlfriend's car. The bus missed the 43-year-old man by only a few inches, the report said, and collided with his girlfriend's car. After Williams ran into the car, she jumped out of the bus and started choking the 31-year-old woman, the report said. Emergency Medical Services responded and transported Williams to Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Her husband complained of shoulder pain but refused treatment. After Williams was released from Tuomey, she was taken to Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
Williams is slated to appear in court on Jan. 4, according to the jail's Web site.
