A 49-year-old Summerton man was killed early Saturday morning in a single vehicle wreck on Elliot Road, officials said.
Richard Felder, of 5 Hill St., died at 2:50 a.m. at the scene of the wreck from body trauma, said Clarendon County Coroner Hayes Samuels.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson said Felder was driving a 1987 two-door Cadillac about 3.1 miles south of Pinewood and heading southbound on Elliot Road when he entered a curve at high speed and failed to negotiate the curve.
"He drove off the left side of the roadway and overturned several times," Robinson said, noting that Felder was fully ejected from the car. He was not wearing a seatbelt, he said.
Dyson's Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements, and according to their Web site, Felder was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from Scott's Branch High School in 1979. He was employed as the lead custodian for the U.S. Postal Service in Columbia and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 5 Hill St., Summerton.
