Deputies arrest 2, seize $12,000 in cash
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office arrested a man and a woman and seized over $12,000 in cash after they were caught speeding Friday morning on Interstate 95, a report said.
Jamar M. Gathers, 27, of Ladson; and Ashley M. Heyward, 23, of Charleston, were both charged with possession of crack about 8:47 a.m. Friday after deputies said Gathers was driving a Ford F-150 that reached speeds of 83 mph in a 70 mph zone. Deputies said Gathers, who was charged with speeding, told them his destination was North Carolina, but Heyward said they were going to Florence. After receiving consent to search the truck, deputies found two bundles of $5,000 in Gathers' coat pocket, as well as small amount of crack in the truck's center console.
Deputies also said they found $2,722 in Gathers' pants pocket, which was also seized.
