COMS hosting holiday hoops tournament

The Chestnut Oaks Christmas Basketball Tournament will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Chestnut Oaks Middle School gymnasium.

The boys and girls teams from both Chestnut Oaks and Furman, the boys teams from Scott's Branch and Manning and the girls team from Hillcrest will play in the tournament.

Play will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday and noon on Friday. The championship games will be played on Saturday with the girls starting at 1 p.m. followed by the boys.

FLORENCE - Sumter High School's varsity girls basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Little Caesars Invitational with a 38-36 victory over Pee Dee Academy on Tuesday at the South Florence High gymnasium.

SHS will face either Manning or South Florence in the championship game today at 7:30 p.m.

Nina Edlow led the Lady Gamecocks, who improved to 7-3 on the season, with 15 points. Tamerah Brown had seven and Dynasia Jackson had six.

On Monday in the tournament, Sumter defeated Darlington 40-27.

Layken Cox had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Brown had 13 and Jackson had eight.

Crestwood 74

East Clarendon 47

TURBEVILLE - Jah'Che Whitfield had a triple-double to lead Crestwood to a 74-47 victory over East Clarendon on Tuesday at the EC gymnasium.

Whitfield scored 18 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out 10 assists for the Lady Knights, who improved to 7-1. Destinee Jamison led CHS in scoring with 28 points.

Monijah Lewis had 14 points and Sedajah Rembert had eight.

Laurence Manning 44

C.A. Johnson 34

COLUMBIA - Laurence Manning Academy evened its record at 5-5 with a 44-34 victory over C.A. Johnson High School on Saturday in the Home Pest Control Holiday Classic at the Heathwood Hall gymnasium.

Brooke Bennett and Lexi Bennett both scored 17 points to lead the Lady Swampcats.

On Friday in the tournament, LMA lost to Heathwood 52-51. Brooke Bennett led the way with 16, while Lexi Bennett had 13 and Sarah Frazier 11.

Beaufort 58

Clarendon Hall 32

BEAUFORT - Clarendon Hall fell to 2-5 with a 58-32 loss to Beaufort Academy on Monday at the BA gymnasium.

Mallory McIntosh led the Lady Saints with 11 points. Kenzie Bagnal had six points and Sydney Wells grabbed eight rebounds.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Ebenezer 31

Bates 29

Jenyadadis Davis scored 17 points to lead Ebenezer to a 31-29 victory over Bates on Monday at the EMS gymnasium.

Nia English added eight points for the Lady Tigers.

Beaufort 59

BEAUFORT - Clarendon Hall improved to 6-1 with a 62-59 victory over Beaufort Academy on Monday at the BA gymnasium.

Zyan Gilmore led the Saints with 19 points. Kylic Horton added 15 points, while Dylan Way had 11. Tyrese Mitchum grabbed 10 rebounds to go with nine points.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Alice Drive 39

Mayewood 33

Alice Drive remained undefeated with a 39-33 victory over Mayewood on Monday at the AD gymnasium.

The Hawks, who improved to 7-0, were led by Nakeem Isaac and Marquis Lane-Owens with 11 points each. Joseph Durant added 10.

Bates 39

Ebenezer 10

Zyeir Gamble scored 11 points to lead Bates to a 39-10 victory over Ebenezer on Monday at the EMS gymnasium.

Brendan Gathers added eight points for the Bantams.
