CAYCE (AP) - Two people who sheriff's deputies said were driving a stolen car have died in a wreck after a chase in South Carolina.

Lexington County Sheriff's Capt. Adam Myrick said in a news release that a deputy tried to stop a car Monday that had been stolen in South Congaree.

Myrick said the car crashed into a van at the entrance to the South Carolina State Farmers Market. No officers' cars were involved, and no officers were hurt.

The Lexington County Coroner's Office said 44-year-old Timothy W. Roberts of Swansea was thrown from the car and died at the scene. Thirty-nine-year-old Nicole Beran of Lexington died at a hospital.

The driver of the van was not seriously injured.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
