2-point conversion lifts Bantams over Hawks

The Bates Middle School football team scored a touchdown and added a 2-point conversion to beat Alice Drive 14-12 in overtime on Wednesday at the Bates field in the season opener for both teams.

The game was tied 6-6 at the end of regulation. Alice Drive's Keon Jett scored on a 10-yard run to make it 12-6. However, the Hawks failed to convert on the conversion.

Bates answered with a touchdown run by Jamal Taylor, who then ran for the 2-point conversion to give the Bantams the win.

Zyeir Gamble rushed for 110 yards and had the touchdown in regulation to lead the Bates offense. Taylor had 44 yards and scored a touchdown as well.

Terrion Nelson led the Bantams defense with six tackles and Jaheim Rose had four.

Amarion Smith returned a kickoff 80 yards for the Hawks' touchdown in regulation.

MANNING - Manning Junior High School defeated R.E. Davis on Wednesday at Ramsey Stadium.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Wilson Hall 251

Hammond 257

Wilson Hall opened its season with a 6-stroke victory over Hammond on Wednesday at Beech Creek Golf Club.

The Lady Barons shot 251 to Hammond's 257. Claire Kirkley had a 9-hole score of 51 to lead Wilson Hall. Isabelle Weston followed with a 59, Amanda Kimbrell shot a 70 and Bree Plemons a 71.
