31-year-old man found injured outside Quality Inn later dies at Palmetto Health Tuomey

The investigation into a Wednesday night shooting at Quality Inn on Broad Street in Sumter is now a death investigation after the 31-year-old victim died from his injuries on Thursday.

According to a news release from Sumter Police Department, about 9:30 p.m. officers responded to a call about shots fired at the Quality Inn where Brandon Antwan Cummings was found shot outside of the hotel.

He was transported to Palmetto Health Tuomey where he died from his injuries.

Details of Cummings injuries were not available as of Thursday afternoon. An autopsy is scheduled for 10 a.m. today.

Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting and whether others are involved in the incident. Based on information gathered so far, the shooting is thought to have been an isolated incident, states the release.
