American Red Cross offers classes

The American Red Cross will offer the following classes at 1155 N. Guignard Drive: 6-9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, Collaborating Essentials; and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, Emergency Operations Center / Incident Command Liaison. Call (803) 775-2363 for information or to register for a class.

Clarendon School District One will conduct free vision, hearing, speech and developmental screenings as part of a child find effort to identify students with special needs. Screenings will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Summerton Early Childhood Center on the following Thursdays: Sept. 11; Oct. 9; Nov. 13; Dec. 11; Jan. 8, 2015; Feb. 12, 2015; March 12, 2015; April 9, 2015; and May 14, 2015. Hospice Care of Tri-County will hold its annual memorial service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Wise Drive Baptist Church, corner of Wise Drive and Wilson Hall Road. Reception will follow. The Sumter Branch NAACP general membership meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Ebenezer AME Church, 119 E. Sumter St., Mayesville.

The Sumter Branch NAACP will sponsor a candidates forum for U.S. 5th and 6th Congressional Districts of South Carolina and U.S. Senate District from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, at Central Carolina Technical College, Health Science Center, 133 S. Main St.

The Sumter Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Sumter School District building on Wilson Hall Road. An American Red Cross blood drive will be held 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall St. Each donor will receive a box of Girl Scout cookies. All donors will be eligible to particpate in a drawing for a free massage.

The Sumter Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Shiloh-Randolph Manor, 125 W.
