Sumter County Sheriff’s Office – aided by Sumter Police Department and South Carolina Highway Patrol – chased a motor vehicle clocked at 110 mph on S.C. 53 on Friday afternoon as suspects threw items out of the vehicle. When officers stopped the car and arrested two suspects, approximately $20,000 and a handgun were found in the vehicle.

Unconfirmed reports indicate a passenger fled from the vehicle for about a quarter mile before officers found him, while the driver was apprehended near the vehicle.

According to the sheriff’s office, the passenger allegedly dropped what officers are calling a “satchel,” the contents of which are not currently known.
