Carl George Bunt Jr., age 93, passed away on Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at Palmetto Heath Tuomey.

Born on Nov. 9, 1922, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Carl G. Sr. and Selma Zenk Bunt. Carl graduated from high school and began his working career doing various jobs. He entered the Navy during World War II and spent the majority of his time in the South Pacific theatre as a gunner's mate on PT boats. He had some fantastic stories to tell of the antics and adventures that he experienced during those years. He was always proud of his Naval service to his country.

Carl returned to North Braddock, Pennsylvania. after the war and began work at a meat packing house. His father didn't think that he would last long at this job, but Carl did. He eventually got a job with the Union Railroad and spent more than 36 years working as a yard master. Carl also worked as a volunteer firefighter with the North Braddock Fire Department.

He was involved in a few social groups: the Moose Lodge; the Freemasons; the Elks and a PT boats group.

Carl remained in the family home in Pittsburgh until 2005 when he relocated to Sumter in order to be near his daughter and her family. Near daily interactions brought joy to them for years.

Carl was well-known around town for his sense of humor and good-hearted kindnesses that he showed everyone he met. Carl's lifelong interest in reading and learning was one of his admired traits. He was quick to share the things that he learned and found fascinating. He loved to fish and travel. Although in his later years, he enjoyed being with family and taking on home projects.

Carl is survived by his daughter, MaryAnn Mease and her husband, Michael, of Sumter; a stepdaughter, Nancy Taylor and her husband, John, of Murrysville, Pennsylvania; a stepson, Daniel Habich and his wife, Cindy, of Murrysville; six grandchildren who brought him much pride, Daniel Taylor, Michael Taylor, Christina Mease Iski, Aaron Mease, Jessica Habich and Jacob Habich; five great-grandchildren that he loved, Mikayla Taylor, Devan Taylor, Noah Ford, Luke Iski and Ryan Iski; and his much beloved companion cat, BuuBuu.
