Nira Geraldine Roberts Hinkle, 83, beloved wife of James Hinkle Jr., died on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born in War Eagle, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Preston and Pearl Holderfield Roberts.

Nira enjoyed playing canasta and was a member of the Red Hats of Sumter.

Her greatest role in life was that of "motherhood" and she loved spending time with her family.

Nira retired from NAF at Shaw Air Force Base. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are: four sons; James Preston Hinkle of St. Pauls, North Carolina, Frank Edward Hinkle of Sumter, Michael Elmer Hinkle of Roaring Creek, North Carolina, and Donald Odell Hinkle of Wedgefield; one brother, Bill Monroe of Sumter, three sisters, Vanzaline Eggman of Tucson, Arizona, Olline Hopson and Linda Pearl Nichols, both of Sumter; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hinkle was preceded in death by one daughter, Nora Mae Hinkle, one sister and six brothers.

Memorials may be made to The Shriner's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605-4277.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday at Bullock Funeral Home.
