Alice Drive, Chestnut Oaks advance to boys middle school title game

Top seed Alice Drive Middle School and No. 2 seed Chestnut Oaks advanced to the championship game of the Sumter Middle School Conference boys basketball tournament with semifinal wins on Tuesday.

AD defeated Mayewood 48-28, while the Falcons knocked off Manning Junior High 51-47. The teams will meet in the championship game on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lakewood High School’s The Swamp. The girls game will begin at noon with No. 1 Chestnut Oaks taking on No. 2 Furman.

Joseph Durant led Alice Drive in scoring with 14 points. Nakeem Isaac added eight, while Marquis Lane-Owens and Keon Jett had six points apiece.

Zayveon Wells led Chestnut Oaks in scoring with 14 points. Lawrence Burroughs had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Requan Baker and Kamaron Rodriguez both had eight and Khalil Peoples six.

VARSITY BASKETBALL

BISHOPVILLE – Lee Central High School finished undefeated in Region IV-2A with a 56-46 victory over Andrew Jackson High on Tuesday at the LC gymnasium.

The Stallions, 20-3 overall and 12-0 in region play, were led by Shykeem Cooper with a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds. DaVeon Thomas and Daequan Thomas both scored 10 points.

B TEAM BASKETBALL

Trinity-Byrnes 21

DARLINGTON – Laurence Manning Academy closed its season with a 48-21 victory over Trinity-Byrnes on Tuesday at the T-B gymnasium.

Brandon King led 9-2 LMA with 17 points. Clayton Lee had nine points and Bryce Acord seven. Mickey Jordan had six assists.

Thomas Sumter 23

Orangeburg Prep 16

DALZELL – Brandon Burns had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead Thomas Sumter Academy to a 23-16 victory over Orangeburg Prep on Tuesday at Edens Gymnasium.

Chris Howes had six points and eight rebounds for 9-3 TSA, while Landon DeLavan had five assists to go with four points.

JV BASKETBALL

Andrew Jackson 61

Lee Central 48

KERSHAW – Lee Central High School saw its season come to an end with a 61-48 loss to Andrew Jackson High on Monday at the AJ gymnasium.

Daurrion Kelly led the Stallions with 12 points. KJ Holloman and Omari Martin both had 10.
