Allison C. Stevens, 91, wife of Harden "Steve" Stevens Jr., died on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at her home.
Born on Oct. 8, 1927, in Conway, she was a daughter of the late Olin Turner Chestnut and Florrie Watson Chestnut. She was a resident of Sumter for 67 years. She was a charter member of Alice Drive Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities including nursery, library, kitchen and others. She retired as a home economics teacher after 30 years of service, having last taught at Furman High School. She was also a longtime volunteer at Tuomey hospital.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years; a son, Harden Stevens III and wife, Wanda, of Lexington; three sisters, Nedra Laing and husband, George, of Durham, North Carolina, and Teressa Faye Chestnut and Olga Caissy, both of Conway; and a sister-in-law, Judy Chestnut.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Trenton Chestnut and Wendell Chestnut; and a sister-in-law, Verta Lee Chestnut.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Entombment will be at 4 p.m. today at the Hillcrest Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum in Conway.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 265 E. Brewington Road.
