Bates, Alice Drive earn shares of regular-season conference title


Bates Middle School won a share of the Sumter Middle School Conference regular-season football title with a 30-24 victory over Manning Junior High on Tuesday at the BMS field.

Keion Brown tossed three touchdown passes to lead the Bantams, who are 6-0 on the season. K'shawn Boyd caught two of the scoring passes and Zyeir Gamble had the other one.

Boyd also ran for a touchdown and had three 2-point conversion.

Jamal Taylor and Gamble led Bates with four tackles apiece. Correll Smith had three tackles and a quarterback sack.

Alice Drive 20

Chestnut Oaks 0

Alice Drive won a share of the Sumter Middle School Conference regular-season title with a 20-0 victory over Chestnut Oaks on Monday at Sumter Memorial Stadium's Freddie Solomon Field.

Ryan McCants tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Alec Rapier as well as a 2-point conversion. Dreshaun Wright and Dae'Breaun Gooden both had touchdown runs of 40 yards.

Terrion Burgess had an interception and Tajon Roach recovered a fumble. Wright had seven tackles and Malik McKinzie had five tackles.


Wilson Hall fifth

CONWAY - Wilson Hall finished fifth out of eight teams in the SCISA State Match on Monday at the Hackler Course.

The Lady Barons shot a 221. Kelly Brady led WH with a 46. Amelia Weston shot a 51, Claire Kirkley shot a 61 and Isabelle Weston shot a 63.

Cardinal Newman won with a 191.

Sumter Christian School lost to Calvary Christian 7-0 on Monday at the SCS field

Nicholas Thurmond had 11 steals for the Bears and Jhordan Sims had 20 clears while John Clement had 18 clears.

Tyler Dawson had 22 saves.

SUMMERTON - Clarendon Hall defeated Coastal Christian Prep 53-26 on Friday at Robinson Field.

Tyrese Mitchum led the Saints with 183 yards rushing and four touchdowns on 14 carries. Dylan Way rushed for 86 yards on six carries.

Michael Boylston led the defense with a pass interception and two fumble recoveries. Ben Corbett had 17 tackles and Josh Black had an interception.

LEXINGTON - Thomas Sumter Academy defeated Northside Christian 3-1 on Tuesday at the NC gymnasium.

The Lady Generals won by the scores of 25-18, 19-25, 25-8, 32-30.

Anita Cookey-Gam led TSA with 23 kills and Taja Hunley had 16. Josie Reed set 24 assists and Sydney Daniel set 20.

Carmen Silvester and Karleigh Young each had six kills and Diamond Gibson had 21 digs.

BISHOPVILLE - Wilson Hall lost to Robert E. Lee 3-2 on Tuesday at the REL gymnasium.

The Lady Barons fell to 18-13.

LEXINGTON - Thomas Sumter Academy lost to Northside Christian 2-0 on Tuesday at the NC gymnasium.

Northside won by the scores of 25-23, 25-22. Logan Scruggs set 11 assists and Lindsay Daniel had eight assists and six kills. Mercedes Byrd had 11 kills, Maci Willetts seven and Libby Gore served three aces.
