Bates football shuts out Mayewood 16-0


The Bates Middle School football team remained undefeated on the season with a 16-0 victory over Mayewood on Tuesday at Viking Stadium.

Keion Brown threw a touchdown pass to K'shawn Boyd. Jerome Vance also ran for a touchdown.

Boyd and Chris Ramirez both ran for 2-point conversions.

Jamal Taylor led the defense with five tackles. Boyd had four tackles and Jalen White had three tackles and a fumble recovery.


Wilson Hall 9

Florence Christian 0

Wilson Hall remained undefeated with a 9-0 victory over Florence Christian on Tuesday at Palmetto Tennis Center.

The Lady Barons improved to 13-0 on the season.

On Monday in Columbia, Wilson Hall beat Cardinal Newman 7-2.

Sumter High School lost to Lugoff-Elgin in its final regular-season match on Tuesday at Beech Creek Golf Club.

Audrey Shuping led the Lady Gamecocks, who shot 264 compared to L-E's 216, with a 64. Rebekah Demars and Sydney Brownlee both shot a 66.

Lugoff's Michaelah Wise shot a 39 and Tristan Ray a 49.

Sumter plays in the Region VI-5A tournament on Monday at Traces Golf Club in Florence.


Wilson Hall 3

Laurence Manning 0

Wilson Hall improved to 17-12 with a 3-0 victory over Laurence Manning Academy on Tuesday at Nash Student Center.

WH won by the scores of 25-7, 25-4, 26-24.

Courtney Clark led the Lady Barons with 13 kills. Sydney Jarecki and Liza Lowder both had four aces.

Trinity-Byrnes 3

DARLINGTON - Thomas Sumter Academy fell to 20-2 with a 3-2 loss to Trinity-Byrnes on Monday at the T-B gymnasium.

T-B won by the scores of 25-23, 17-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-10.

Sydney Daniel set 31 assists and Josie Reed another 15 for TSA. Anita Cookey-Gam had 21 kills and Taja Hunley had 18.

Holly Hill 3

Clarendon Hall 1

SUMMERTON - Clarendon Hall fell to 6-6 with a 3-1 loss to Holly Hill Academy on Monday at the CH gym.

HHA won by the scores of 25-20, 25-19, 24-26, 25-15.

Sara James led the Lady Saints with 19 points and three aces. Madison Kidd and Ava had 17 points apiece.


Ebenezer 2-2

Furman 1-0

Ebenezer swept a doubleheader from Furman on Monday at the EMS gymnasium, winning the first match 2-1 and the second 2-0.

The Lady Tigers won the opener by the scores of 25-14, 13-25, 25-16. Jaunaysha McCray had eight aces for Ebenezer and Kanya Lyles added seven.

In the second match, EMS won by the scores of 26-24, 25-23. Michaela Sanders had nine aces and MeKayla Loney had four.

On Saturday, at the Chestnut Oaks gymnasium, Ebenezer beat CO 3-0 by the scores of 25-4, 24-14, 25-17.

Lyles had 22 aces and Sanders had 19.

SUMMERTON - Clarendon Hall remained undefeated with a 2-0 victory Holly Hill on Monday at the CH gymnasium.

The 12-0 Lady Saints won by the scores of 25-12, 25-10.

Whitney Avins led Clarendon Hall with 11 points and seven aces. Aubrey Edwards had 10 points and both Hadliegh McIntosh and Amberly Way had six points.

Lakewood 2

Wilson 0

Lakewood High School defeated Wilson 2-0 on Tuesday at The Swamp.

The Lady Gators won by the scores 25-13, 25-21.

Darby Watford had 10 points, three aces and two kills to lead LHS. Ariaina Rideaux had five points, one ace and four kills,

Maggie Sanderson had 10 points and two aces, Diamond Lowery had seven points and four aces and Morgan Christmas had six points, two aces and four digs.
