Bates teams No. 1 seeds in Sumter Middle School Conference basketball tournaments

Bates Middle School will have the No.1 seed in both the boys and girls portions of the Sumter Middle School Conference basketball tournaments that begin next week.
The girls quarterfinal games will be played on Monday at the site of the higher seeded teams. Bates, which is 12-2 in conference play, will play host to No. 8 seed Furman, which is 0-14.
No. 2 seed Hillcrest, 11-3, will take on 3-11 Ebenezer, No. 3 R.E. Davis, 10-4, will meet 6-8 Alice Drive, and No. 4 Manning, 7-7, will meet 6-8 Chestnut Oaks.
The boys tournament will begin on Tuesday with undefeated Bates (14-0) playing host to 0-14 Ebenezer. The other quarterfinal matchups will have No. 2 Alice Drive (12-2) meeting 3-11 Hillcrest, No. 3 Manning (10-4) taking on 5-7 R.E. Davis and No. 4 Furman (8-6) taking on 6-8 Chestnut Oaks.
All of the games are scheduled for 5 p.m. starts.
The girls semifinals will be played at the higher seeds on Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m., while the boys semis will be played on Thursday at the higher seeds, also beginning at 5 p.m.
The championship games will be played on Saturday at Sumter High School. The girls game will begin at noon to be followed by the boys contest.

BOYS
Bates 56
Ebenezer 25
Bates Middle School finished the Sumter Middle School Conference regular season undefeated at 14-0 with a 56-25 win over Ebenezer on Thursday at the EMS gymnasium.
Correan Nelson led the Bantams with 17 points. Caleb Jenkins and Matthew Rogers both had eight, and Nate Butler and Terrian Nelson added six apiece.
Alice Drive 71
R.E. Davis 56
Marquis Lane-Owens had double-dou8ble of 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Alice Drive Middle School to a 71-56 win over R.E Davis on Thursday at the AD gymnasium.
Amarion Smith had 11 points for the Hawks, who improved to 12-2. Quantez Jenkins had eight points, Keon Jett had four assists and seven steals, and Brandon Oliver had seven steals four assists and five points.
Manning 60
Hillcrest 38
DALZELL – Ernie Carroway scored 16 points to lead Manning Junior High School to a 60-38 win over Hillcrest on Thursday at the HMS gymnasium.
Justin Daniels added 13 for the Monarchs, and Jeh’qwauyn Hilton had 11.
Lee Central 48
Hannah-Pamplico 21
BISHOPVILLE – Lee Central Middle School defeated Hannah-Pamplico 48-21 in an opening-round game in the Upper Pee Dee Conference tournament on Thursday at the LCMS gymnasium.
Michael Holmes led the Stallions with 13 points. Zyquez Wilson added 12, and Jai Thomas had seven.
Lee Central will take on Kingstree on Saturday in a semifinal game beginning at 3:30 p.m.

GIRLS
Bates 34
Ebenezer 17
Bates Middle School wrapped up the Sumter Middle School Conference regular-season title with a 34-17 win over Ebenezer on Thursday at the Ebenezer gymnasium.
Dalaisha Brunson had 12 points to lead the Lady Bantams, who improved to 16-2 overall and 12-2 in conference play.
Kharya Reed added seven points.
R.E. Davis 32
Alice Drive 13
Tashianna Farmer had 20 points, 14 rebounds and five steals to lead R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy to a 32-13 win over Alice Drive on Thursday at the AD gymnasium.
Liliana Ignacio had nine points, while Sha’Naisa Howard had five steals and five rebounds.
Hillcrest 45
Manning 36
DALZELL – Teniya Morant scored 29 points to lead Hillcrest Middle School to a 45-36 win over Manning Junior High School on Thursday at the HMS gymnasium.
Ollaysia Williams added nine points for the Lady Wildcats, who improved to 11-3 on the season.
Simaya Witherspoon led Manning with 11 points. Taylor Gourdine added 10.
