Bates wins Sumter Middle football regular-season title


The Bates Middle School football team won the Sumter Middle School Conference regular-season title based on a points system and will be the No. 1 see in the conference playoffs, which begin next week.

The Bantams and Alice Drive both finished the regular season with 6-0 records. However, the points system gave BMS the outright crown.

Bates and Alice Drive will host semifinal games on Thursday, Oct. 19. Their foes will be determined after Manning plays host to Chestnut Oaks on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Lee Central 35

TIMMONSVILLE - Lee Central improved to 3-1 with a 35-0 victory over Johnson Middle on Wednesday at the JMS field.

Deangelo Century led the Stallions with 150 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Nasir Rodriguez ran for 50 yards and a TD, while KJ Albert blocked a punt and recovered it for a TD.

The defense was led by Tykawn Slater with 10 tackles, Kwatre Harry and Michael McDaniel both had nine tackles.

Hillcrest 30

Ebenezer 6

Hillcrest Middle School ended its season with a 30-6 victory over Ebenezer on Tuesday at the EMS field.

Nick Fortune had a 15-yard touchdown run, ran for three 2-point conversions and threw a touchdown pass to Aaron Hill to lead the Wildcats.

Hill also ran for a touchdown as did Jajuan Williams. Jamonte Wiley led the defense with 12 tackles.


WH teams fifth, 12th

SANTEE - Wilson Hall's boys finished fifth and the WH girls finished 12th in the Calhoun Academy Invitational at Santee State Park on Wednesday.

Bryce Lyles led the Barons, finishing third overall. Layton Creech was 16th, Matthew Taveraz 17th, Matthew Blankenship 53rd and Drew Davis 62nd.

In the girls meet, Kirsten Fisher led Wilson Hall with a 12-place finish. Molly Moss was 15th, Margaret Kelly 19 and Emily Reynolds 59th.

BISHOPVILLE - Lakewood High School defeated Lee Central 3-2 on Wednesday at the LC gymnasium.

The Lady Gators won by the scores of 24-26, 25-12 25-8, 17-25, 17-15.

Emily McDonald led LHS with 14 aces, three kills and three aces. Rachel Hardlerode has seven aces, two kills and five assists, Amiyah Pinkney had two aces six kills and two blocks, and Taylor McPhail had aces, 13 kills and two blocks.

BISHOPVILLE - Lakewood High School defeated Lee Central 2-0 on Wednesday at the LC gymnasium.

The Lady Gators won by the scores of 25-7, 25-1.

Ariana Rideaux led LHS with 16 services points and eight aces. Darby Watford and Morgan Christmas both had 10 points and eight aces, while Savannah Jones and Diamond Lowery both had five points.

MANNING - Manning High School defeated Laurence Manning 5-4 on Tuesday at the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex.


1 - Savannah South (LMA) defeated Emma Failmezger 8-2.

2 - Madison Shirley (LMA) defeated Katie Ann Anderson 8-4.

3 - Mason Lee (LMA) defeated Sadie Johnson 8-2.

4 - Tori Beth Weeks (M) defeated Allie Turner 8-2.

5 - Tracie Holladay (M) defeated Cameron Dunlap 8-4.

6 - Abbey Owens (M) defeated Madison DeVaughn 8-2.


1 - South/Shirley (LMA) defeated Failmezger/Weeks 8-5.

2 - Lacey Fralix/Jada Griffin (M) defeated Lee/Turner 8-5.
