Bond was denied for Chauncey Antonio Wright, 23 — charged with armed robbery for allegedly taking money from The Station convenience store in Mayesville and attacking the clerk on Friday — during a hearing at 8:30 a.m. today at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the clerk had been beaten about the head by an unknown object after responding to the store on Florence Highway about 8:35 p.m., according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The victim was airlifted to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence and was reported to be in stable condition as of Saturday.

The release also states the armed robbery incident was recorded on a surveillance camera.

After the assault, Wright, of Avenue D, Mayesville, went behind the counter and took an undetermined amount of money from the register, along with a few other items, before fleeing the area on foot.

Wright was later identified by a patrol deputy during a traffic stop on Saturday night. He was transported to the detention center where he was interviewed and subsequently charged.

Ken Bell, public information officer for the sheriff's office, said it is possible that other charges could be filled as the investigation continues.

Wright's next appearance will be at 8:30 a.m. on May 11 in General Sessions Court at Sumter County Judicial Center.
