Restaurant news: Broad Street Wendy's in Sumter to be rebuilt

Posted

Visitors of the Broad Street Wendy's will see the restaurant brought into the current decade if proposed plans to rebuild the structure are approved at Sumter Planning Commission's meeting on Wednesday.

David Ayers, a director for Carolina Restaurant Group, said the company recently acquired about a dozen Wendy's restaurants in the Florence and Sumter areas, including the Broad Street location, which it intends to rebuild.

The current structure at 1085 Broad St. was constructed in the mid-90s based on the design of the building, he said.

The plan is to scrap the entire building and rebuild a new restaurant from the ground up, he said.

A staff report for the proposed plan states construction will consist of a new parking and traffic circulation area, 2,600-square-foot building and landscaping.

Ayers anticipates construction to begin in early to mid-October and to be completed before the end of the year.
