Caterpillar Precision Pin Products facility in Sumter recently celebrated 20 years in operation with its employees and their families at the 210,000-square-foot facility.

The facility opened its doors on Oct. 8, 1998, producing linkage pins, planet shafts and hinge pins used in a variety of Cat products.

"Our success here has been driven by a great community and our outstanding employees," Doug Whiteley, Sumter facility manager, said in a news release. "I would like to thank all of our employees for helping make Caterpillar a great place to work. The outstanding commitment to our entire team has helped drive our safety and quality culture."

According to the release, Caterpillar is always looking for ways to better serve its customers and the community. Employees actively support Adopt-A-Highway, Toys for Tots and the United Way. Since 2010, Caterpillar has been the presenting sponsor for the Golden Apple Awards for the Sumter School District. This award is not based solely on grades or academic achievement but also recognizes students who have shown pride, determination, commitment or honesty.
