The Celtic Tenors will perform at Sumter Opera House on Saturday in one of only five stops in the U.S. The trio rarely tours in North America, and they're only in the States for two weeks.
City of Sumter Cultural Manager Seth Reimer said the Opera House is "thrilled to have them as part of our Main Stage Series. More than just world-class artists, you'll see their genuine love of music shine through each rendition of beautiful Celtic songs, exhilarating classics, popular contemporary songs and Christmas favorites."
The singers are Matthew Gilsenan, James Nelson and Daryl Simpson. As the Celtic Tenors, they have released seven CDs on EMI, Telarc and Dara labels. Their eponymous first CD reached double platinum in sales and rose to the top of charts in Ireland, Germany and the United Kingdom. In Germany, the Celtic Tenors won the Echo Award for Best Classical Crossover Act.
Their latest recording, released in 2011, is "Feels Like Home." The tenors will likely sing several selections from the CD, which includes "Going Home," "Red Haired Mary," "Dimming of the Day" and many others.
"Anyone that comes to this show is assured of a professional, festive and also good-humored performance when these three take the stage," Reimer said.
Following the 7:30 p.m. performance, Celtic Tenors merchandise, including their CDs, "The Irish Tenors," "We Are Not Islands," "Remember Me," "Hard Times" and "Feels Like Home" will be on sale in the Opera House lobby.
