HEMINGWAY - Charles Jeffery "Jeff" Altman, 66, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at his home following a long battle with cancer. Mr. Jeff was born in Hemingway, a son of the late Hollie W. and Azalee Tanner Altman. He was a graduate of Hemingway High School, Florence-Darlington Technical College and numerous Air Force schools.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, and - for more than 35 years - Jeff worked for several government contractors in the Charleston area including Jonathan, Tracor and, most recently, SERCO, as an electronics technician providing services to Navy and Marine Corp. Air Traffic Control Centers.
Jeff was a baptized member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, past secretary of Indiantown Masonic Lodge No. 365 and past Patron of the Hemingway Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. He loved fishing, wood-working, and being a Mr. Fix-It.
Surviving is his wife, the Rev. Wanda Altman; daughters, Amanda Altman, Crystal Altman and Jasmine Altman; grandsons, Conner and Camden Altman; brother, Barry Altman; sisters, Nancy (Johnny) Spradley, Elaine Hayes and Judy Altman. He was predeceased by a brother, Jerry Altman.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway. The family will receive friends after the service in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 1760 Pope Road, Hemingway, SC 29554.
