Charles Wesley Kershaw Sr., 85, died Sunday, June 3, 2018, at his home in Wedgefield, following a brief battle with cancer.

Born on March 4, 1933, in Stateburg, he was a son of Lawrence and Melissa Kershaw. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1951. He then joined the United States Air Force, where he took immense pride in serving the country through his military service and particularly as a serviceman in the United States Air Force. He would proudly remind family and friends that he served 26 years, one month and one day in the military until retiring in 1977. He subsequently worked for almost 20 more years at Crescent Tools.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eulia Mae English Kershaw; his sons, Darrell Kershaw of Columbia, Charles Wesley Kershaw Jr. of Sumter, Keith (Maxine) Kershaw of Columbia, Elliott (Franchelle) Kershaw of Nashville, Tennessee, and Martin (Quinda) Kershaw of Columbia; one brother, Lawrence Kershaw II of Stateburg; a grandson, Quentin, who grew up in the home and was more like the sixth son to both Charles and Eulia; 14 other grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at his home, 2140 S.C. 261 South, Wedgefield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at High Hills Baptist Church, 6750 Meeting House Road, Dalzell.

The funeral procession will leave at 9:40 a.m. from the home.

Interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society in his honor.
