Church Women United of the Greater Sumter Area will celebrate World Community Day with a morning of fellowship and prayers at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 130 Loring Mill Road. The theme for this event is "Kindling New Fires for Peace."
Today, we are part of a larger global community made even more accessible by technology. The digital age has changed how we communicate and relate to one another. Our "neighbor" may be across the world but made near to us through the exchange of information and ideas across international borders. As people of faith, we have an increased ability to reach beyond Christian denominations to brothers and sisters who are Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish and many other religious denominations. The focus of World Community Day 2017 is to, through mutual respect, create an inclusive community that is just, caring and supportive, to be the light of hope, compassion, respect and understanding in order to courageously kindle new fires toward peace.
Those who wish to participate are asked to bring a finger food or a covered dish.
