CLAUDIA GATHERS

Claudia Gathers, 54, departed this earthly life on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at his residence.

Born on Nov. 4, 1963, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Carolina and Pearl Thompson Gathers. He received his education in the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1981 graduate of Hillcrest High School. Claudia worked several jobs during his life, notably mobile home construction and, most recently, Carpet Wholesales for 15 years. Claudia was a hard worker and a jack-of-all-trades.

Claudia was a lifetime member of Wayman Chapel AME Church, where he was a faithful member of the Sons of Allen, male chorus and senior usher board.

His memories will be cherished by his wife, Deloris Stavis Gathers; one son, Krayphonz Walcott of the home; one brother, Willie Charles (Diane) Gathers of Sumter; two aunts, Eleanora Gathers of Wedgefield and Janie Gayle of Hampton, Virginia; one stepson, Reggie Stavis of Wedgefield; a special niece, Heaven Stavis of Sumter; five brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; a host of other nieces, nephews, special cousins, relatives and friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 43 James Haskell Road, Wedgefield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Wayman Chapel AME Church, 160 N. Kings Highway, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Dennis W. Broughton Jr., pastor, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

The funeral procession will leave at 10:30 a.m. from the home.

Burial will be at the Wayman Chapel AME Churchyard Cemetery.
