He attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Sumter High School, Class of 1976. He studied at Johnson C. Smith University for two years. He joined the United States Air Force, where he served for four years and furthered his education at the Community College of the Air Force.
Cherishing his memories are his wife, Valencia Chambers; sons, Cleveland Chambers III (Donesha) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Technical Sgt. Craig Smart of Phoenix, Arizona; his mother, Clara Cureton Chambers; five siblings, Yolanda Debra Wilson, Latrelle Chambers and Alvin Chambers of Sumter, Qundal Gray (Gregory) of Smyrna, Georgia, and Vanessa Ellington (Donald) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; three aunts, Nevetta Cureton Ferguson, Sarah L. Walker and Agnes Spencer; and one uncle, Alfred Spencer of Sumter; two granddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving family and friends.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 3335 Kim St., Dalzell.
Wake service will be held today from 6 to 7 p.m. from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, 821 N. Main St., Sumter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 421 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Alexander Baker, pastor, and the Rev. Doris Bright, officiating.
The procession will leave from the home at 9 a.m.
Burial will be in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.
