Clifton Riley Waters, husband of Julia Ann Stone Waters for 55 years, died on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at Covenant Place.

Born on May 30, 1923, in Florence, he was a son of the late William Frederick Waters Sr. and Corrie Huggins Waters. Mr. Waters was a member of First Baptist Church of Sumter and a retiree of the U.S. Postal Service with 40 years of service.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his devoted daughter, Ann Riley Waters Parrish; his beloved grandson, Riley Neil Parrish; a sister, Esther Waters Ardis; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leon and Bessie Lou Stone; and a brother-in-law, Ivan McLeod.

Mr. Waters was preceded in death by a brother, William Frederick Waters Jr.; two sisters, Jennie W. Witherspoon and Kathleen W. Cothran; a nephew, Stephan Ardis; and a sister-in-law, Janie Stone McLeod.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Lynn Gardner, the Rev. Bob Calvert and the Rev. Marvis Stewart officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Billy Waters, Sammy Burrows, Stephan Ardis, Chuck Stone, Andrew Stone and Matthew Stone.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Triune Sunday School Class, Hope / Friendship Sunday School Class and the Journey Bible Study Group.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Benevolence Fund of First Baptist Church, 107 E. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.
